Soft Play Playgrounds – Aspects to Consider
There are a number of surfaces that can be used for playgrounds.
Surface options range from plain tarmac, to an artificial carpet with or without sand, through to a rubber crumb infilled 3g turf.
When planning a new playground, you may need to consider the following:
- Level of use of the playground
- Maintenance of the surface
I would not recommend a 3g rubber crumb infill for a playground because the crumb sticks to everything, meaning that it will be tracked into the school building and can also block the drains. In addition, to this, 3g surfaces need regular maintenance – which includes weekly brushing and crumb top ups.
If you are considering an artificial turf then your options would include a thin hard wearing “playground” surface and a sand dressed carpet (with or without a cushioning underlaid shockpad).
I can help you choose the most suitable surface for your new playground.
